WHERE PERFORMANCE HAPPENS

23rd-24th OCTOBER, ARNOLFINI

Join IPA Bristol for a three day platform of performance events curated by Fay Stevens. Held in the Arnolfini, one of Europe’s leading centres for the contemporary arts, plus pop-up performance interventions that resonate with themes of mobility, migration and identity, ‘Where Performance Happens’ offers an exciting and thought provoking exploration of performance, place and identity by outstanding international emerging and established performance artists.

The platform comprises two evenings of performance and a morning symposium at Arnolfini as well as three afternoons of pop-up performance within the city. Throughout the platform, Arnolfini will be the creative hub for IPA Bristol, a base for participating performers and visitors to converse, engage with and explore where performance happens.

Bristol is a vibrant city with an exciting and radical art scene and diverse and complex histories, genealogies, geographies and politics. It is palimpsest, a place of invention, juxtaposition and innovation with locales that mark events of chance, history, operation, control and intervention.

For three days, performance artists will create a series of performance interventions in the city. Performances will take place in contrasting areas that resonate with Bristol’s history of migration, society, identity and culture. See more about the venues

The central location for the evening performance events venue is the Arnolfini, the Centre for Contemporary Arts based in the heart of Bristol city centre. The venue will play host to a part of the programme’s performance schedule across the two days, Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th October 2015.

Find out more about the Arnolfini

ST NICHOLAS MARKET

Witness a performance against the backdrop of the one of the oldest and thriving market areas in Bristol and the UK. Catch an artist round the corner of a market stool, see a glimmer of life through the doors into the market.

BRISTOL HARBOURSIDE, MSHED

A wide open space next to the infamous Harbourside, listen to the music of a distant busker as you watch a performance unfold in front of your eyes. Walk along the cobbled road and join the crowds as a performance happens in real time.

CASTLE PARK

Castle Park, a green open space in the city centre. The hybrid of rural meets urban in this historic park. The greenery, the castle, the centrality of this location is the perfect backdrop for an impulsive and unpredictable performance.
